The Blood is on Your Hands
Our fight was strengthened when the California Superior Court Judge Ronald Quidachay ruled that Prop N was unconstitutional in San Francisco. Newsom reintroduced his Counterfeit Care program to the Board of Supervisors. At that point we knew that we had Newsom's legislation on the ropes and that we would have deliver the final blows to make sure it was defeated and buried forever. Newsom dragged the battle out as long as he could, postponing and postponing every opportunity we had to call a vote. From claiming to be in Mexico for a wedding on a Tuesday, to holding in City hall until midnight, only to postpone the vote again - there was no end to the lengths Newsom would go to keep his little plan alive. And all of our allies on the Board were going along with Newsom's stall tactics out of courtesy to their fellow politician. We knew that behind their political politeness, our lives were on the line. We planned an action to let them know that as long as our lives are being toyed with by Newsom and DHS and they are failing to act in our interests - The blood is on all of their hands. We packed the room with hundreds of no- and low-wage workers and our allies and several members risked arrest, staging a die-in at the front of Supervisors chambers. We shut their meeting down! Our presence finally forced the vote that day, and Prop N was buried once and for all.
